I got the job!

I recently took a job teaching 8th grade math at Central Wilkes Middle School in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Now, if you are not familiar with Wilkesboro it is the biggest county (size wise) in the state of North Carolina! It is massive! The county has 5 high schools (one being an early college), 4 middle schools, and 13 elementary schools! I come from Avery County where there is 1 high school, 2 middle schools and 5 elementary schools, so it is a big change for me! Since the day I decided I wanted to be a middle school teacher I always said I wanted to teach 8th grade math. After doing my student teaching in 6th grade math I fell in love with them and I am beyond nervous about teaching 8th graders again.

I remember 8th grade very well and I was not a very nice kid. Karma is going to come back around and slap me right in the double chin, I just know it. I was mean and I had no filter between what was going on in my tiny middle school brain and what came out of my big redneck mouth. I am not sure how or why my teachers in middle school put up with me but they did. They are essentially the reason and inspiration for me wanting to become a middle school teacher. Their patience and ability to over look my flaws really changed my mind about teaching high school. It was the teachers I had in middle school who were there for me through all of the terrible things that were happening to me in middle school. I only hope that I can be that advocate for my students!

Middle School!! (I am on the left) Yeah, I was crazy!

Middle School! (Bottom Left) "Most Athletic"-- Sports were the only thing that kept me sane in M.S.

The 3 best friends! (L to R) Me, Amber and Hannah! We thought we were so cool!

Hannah, Kristen Davis, Me! Yeah...I am not sure what I was thinking!

Fortunately I am going to be at a school with an amazing administration and on a team filled with teachers of the year, and excellent support staff. I feel so lucky to be starting at a school with such a great group of people by my side.

Going to a new school and a new county makes me feel like a kid again. I am nervous and excited to make new friends and meet new people and I have this overwhelming feeling inside to make people want to like me again! HaHa!! It sounds so silly, I know, but I really think that we will all get along very well!
